TAKE ACTION

Action Looks Different for Everyone

Taking action does not always mean leaving, reporting, or confronting harm. In many situations, the safest and most effective action is small, quiet, or internal.

Action is about reclaiming choice — not meeting expectations.

If You Are Experiencing Abuse

You are not required to:

  • Be ready

  • Be certain

  • Be strong

  • Act quickly
    .

Possible actions might include:

  • Talking to one trusted person

  • Gathering information

  • Seeking confidential support

  • Taking steps to protect your wellbeing

  • Doing nothing for now, if that is safest
    .

You are allowed to move at your own pace.

If You Are Supporting Someone Else

If someone has trusted you with their experience:

  • Listen without judgment or pressure

  • Believe what they tell you

  • Avoid giving ultimatums or timelines

  • Ask what they need, rather than assuming

  • Respect their choices, even when they’re hard to understand
    .

Being present can be more powerful than trying to fix things.

If You Are Part of a Community or Organisation

Abuse often continues because environments tolerate silence or minimise harm.

You can take action by:

  • Challenging harmful narratives or jokes

  • Creating safer spaces for disclosure

  • Refusing to excuse abuse as stress, culture, or belief

  • Supporting policies that prioritise safety and dignity

  • Learning how coercive control operates
    .

Small cultural shifts can reduce harm.

If You Want to Advocate or Contribute

Some people choose to take action through:

  • Volunteering time or skills

  • Supporting survivor-led organisations

  • Donating to community services

  • Sharing accurate information responsibly

  • Advocating for better systems and responses
    .

Advocacy should centre survivor safety, not visibility.

Action Without Risk

Not all action needs to be public.
Not all action needs to be visible.
Not all action needs to be immediate.

Safety comes first.
